Prior to arriving in Budapest, I honestly didn’t know what to think. I had no preconceived ideas about it and was going in with a clear mind and a blank slate. Man, oh man, was Budapest a delightful, beautiful surprise. It has since become one of my favorite places I have travelled to. The sights, the food, the culture have left an indelible impression on my heart.

One of the first places I visited in Budapest was Fisherman’s Bastion. Located in Buda Castle, this fairytale-esque monument offers a breathtaking riverscape of the Danube River, panoramic views of Budapest, and the Hungarian Parliament building as a backdrop. I felt like I was stepping back in time as I climbed the steps and gazed upon the Danube.

If you were wondering where the name Fishermans Bastion came from, well, you came to the right place! It is named after the group of fisherman chosen to defend that section of the castle.

After dinner and copious amounts of Eastern European beers, it was time to explore Budapest at night.

Set on the Danube River, the Chain Bridge was built in 1849 and connects both Buda and Pest.

How absolutely gorgeous is this bridge?

I was able to tour the Hungarian Parliament building. Wow, is all I’ll say. Pictures don’t do it justice, let me just say, if you’re interested in governmental buildings and gold, then this is the place for you.
